Why SurvivorRx?
Dr. Joe Mignone, Co-founder of SurvivorRx
Every day, I have the privilege of walking beside my patients in the battle for their lives. This profound connection with people is what drew me to oncology in the first place. I am board-certified in Oncology, Internal Medicine, and Palliative Care, with over 25 years of clinical experience. While my extensive training equipped me to treat and support my patients during their active treatment, I found our system fell short when it came to guiding them toward a healthier, fuller life as cancer survivors.
To bridge this gap, I completed a fellowship at the University of Arizona's Dr. Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. The integration of Western science-based medicine and traditional holistic wisdom allowed me to become a better doctor, with more tools to guide my patients in thriving through survivorship with a healthy diet, exercise, and mindfulness routine.
Patients frequently asked my advice on the benefits and risks of various vitamins, minerals, botanicals, and most recently, mushrooms. My wife Marzena and I spent countless evenings researching those supplements, only to find that many were of subpar quality, improperly dosed, or simply inappropriate for specific cancer survivors. Frustrated by the misinformation, we realized the need for a reliable source where survivors could find trustworthy information and quality products. That’s how the idea of SurvivorRx was born.
With the guidance of our friend and partner, Tom Leonard, we collaborated with doctors, pharmacists, naturopaths, our daughter, and our survivor friends to create a company that is, first and foremost, educational, empowering, and helpful to my patients and all those who choose to live a healthier life after their battle with cancer. We are proud of each ingredient in every supplement we make and are grateful for the overwhelming positive response we receive from the survivor community in our city and beyond.
Mrs. Marzena Mignone, Co-founder of SurvivorRx
I have been the wife of an oncologist for over 30 years, but even before that, I was deeply touched by cancer, like so many of us are: My grandmother, my aunt, my mother, my father, my dear friends. Holding their hands and their hearts before, during, and after their chemotherapies, radiations, and surgeries taught me a lot about life, what matters, and how to support cancer patients' and then cancer survivors. Caring for my own loved ones highlighted for me just how difficult it is to do research when one is anxious, scared, and unable to distinguish a sales pitch from fact. I was blessed to be able to ask my husband and to help us navigate the vast web of information about what was safe, what was cutting-edge science, and what was just expensive trash. However, most people don’t have that same luxury I had.
We decided to create a website, a community, and supplements that survivors could trust. Our aim was not to invent something new, but simply to do the homework for survivors: Search the globe for the best of what science already supports, ensuring each ingredient is survivor focused, properly sourced, and meets rigorous standards of quality.
Everything we do is driven by the idea that success comes from bringing value into this world and that the best basis for a business is care and integrity. With that in mind, we created SurvivorRx, our supplements, our Tiny Loving Community (TLC), and our educational BeyondCancer page. Our sincere hope is to simplify survivorship for cancer survivors everywhere.
